From this 2008/07/20 06:51pm plurk: “writing a plurkpix app…direct upload to plurkpix, and a few other features…the whole “email to plurkpix” idea was just too fraught with potential for spam…I want plurkpix to be login-free (hassle-free) so the method I’ve devised for the rollout is: for phones that support MMS, I’m registering an MMS gateway (and SMS gateway) so you’ll be able to text something like 123456 with the picture and it will be stored…for iPhones, I’m putting a free app together that directly ties to the API.“
This 2008/07/19 04:50am plurk announces the addition of “three servers (separate machines for database and images, load balancer in place, this is going to work very nicely), over 4Tb of storage, a bandwidth upgrade” and promises that “new features will roll out…I figure I’ll roll out the new code on Monday“
In this 2008/07/18 01:45am plurk
Martin said that PlurkPix “doesn’t use much bandwidth — yet.“
In this 2008/07/16 09:39pm plurk Martin reveals that there’s been “over 1000 images in the first week!” uploaded, and that “code updates next week, and the upload interface cleanup.”
A 2008/07/13 02:46am plurk asked that we check out this 73 x 10 thumbnails page.
A 2008/07/11 09:22pm plurk let us know that Martin is “working on multiple-file upload code for plurkpix.”
In this 2008/07/11 06:54am plurk, we learn that Plurkpix now posts to Plurk AND to Twitter!
The ‘recent uploads’ photos on the main page was apparently a bad idea. In this 2008/07/10 06:53am plurk Martin said that it had been a bad idea because of “1) adult photos 2) bandwidth hog … I’ll replace it with a “last hundred photos” page that I’m working on … 10×10 thumbnail page, w/ link and ability to replurk the photos.”
The his 2008/07/10 06:53am plurkdemonstrated that “people can [now] use freestyle verbs, and the pic is posted afterwards.”
In his 2008/07/10 05:57am plurk, Martin said that “getting the API up and running was a pain and a half…it depends on all kinds of PEAR wierdness (JSON, etc)”
The this 2008/07/10 05:46am plurk proclaimed “now with post-to-plurk power.”
Martin’s this 2008/07/10 04:30am plurk, let’s us know that multiple uploads won’t be allowed because “too much chance of SPAM”
In this 2008/07/10 04:29am plurk, we’re told that “first beta should be ready by morning.”
The most recent 5 uploaded pictures are now displayed on the Plurkpix main page according to this 2008/07/09 08:17pm plurk.
In this 2008/07/09 07:20pm plurk, Martin says that Plurkpix is “essentially an image hosting service, not a gallery.
In this 2008/07/09 07:20pm plurk, Martin says “I am avoiding user accounts on purpose. I want plurkpix to be as simple to use as posslbe.”
According to this plurk:
“the TwitterAPI…is broken…I just posted a failwhale on the Twitter side of the post links…if it should -MIRACULOUSLY- start working again…it will post twitters -and- plurks.”
According to this plurk:
“now testing emailing photos to plurkpix.com…doesnt know if his email server will be able to keep up…it’s hard to decode the files and save them off…the problem is decoding the images, checking that the incoming email was valid, and returning a link -without- spamming…I’m afraid that someone will spamflood the account, or find a way to use it to spread something like Viagra spam…which would SUC…orking on figuring out how to throttle…wow, this is actually a very hard problem…it’s easy to do, but there are some serious complications.”
According to this plurk:
“You can upload a pic, and it will be hosted and you can use it. I have a couple other ways to get pix uploaded I’m working on… pix by email (for iPhone users)… and pix by SMS (for other mobile users)… however .. in the interest of keeping things simple and easy. What’s there, works… [next] I’ll tackle the ‘;decoding emails into plurkpix URL’s’ “
Martin provided the first example of this new service in this plurk.
According to this plurk: “You can now easily upload you pix (FAR easier than FlickR and whatever) and then link them to plurk…I’ll work on an actual “post to plurk” link later today, after a nap…For now, have fun .. it should make posting pictures a lot easier even as it is…will try to Keep It REALLY Simple…no metadata, no tags, just “upload a pic, get a short URL to post on Plurk/Twitter/Whatever.”
According to this plurk: “If you want an easy way to upload pictures to plurk, I have created www.plurkpix.com. No login needed .. just upload the picture you want, and you’ll get a small URL with the picture ready to post to plurk. I’ll be adding the option to post the picture to plurk directly as well using your Plurk account shortly. It’s a free hosting service, I’ll just store all the plurks until the server dies, or I run out of donations to keep the server running. I have 3Tb of storage available right now, which is enough for a heck of a lot of pictures…Ah, the power of PHP for rapid prototyping…I went from “hmm, wonder if” to “working, and uploading” in .. oh .. 3 hours…Now I’m fiddling with the CSS .. trying to make it look a bit more slick”
According to this plurk: “It will let you upload a pix, from SMS, email, or from the form (and for the iPhone users, send the image as an attachment to an email and have it stored). It will automatically then plurk the pic! If you use the webform, it will let you add a comment as well. First, upload pic and use the compact directory algorithm to store them. The hardest part will be the SMS gateway. I need a service that is either very cheap, or free. The email gateway will be easier, but then I need to install tools to decode an attachment, check that it’s a jpg, and then email the URL back to you. [Storing the pix] on my own server…3Tb disk on there…four disks, raid 0+1 for redundancy and speed…er, 2Tb rather.”
It seems that martinbogo (Martin Bogomolni) has been busy…
